Climate and weather in Prague
Prague's geographical location in Central Europe brings fairly extreme weather patterns. There are marked differences between seasons. The weather in spring is usually warm & fairly dry; summer is hot & sunny; autumn is cool & wet; winter can be very cold with ice & snow. Average temperature in December and January is minus 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit). In the hottest months, June and July, the temperature usually hovers around 30C (86F).
Such contrasts in climate add to the romantic appeal of Prague, a city well equipped to keep the tourist comfortable and entertained all year round.
Travelers to Prague know the climate's secret. Summer is only one of the best times to visit the city. While most of the tourist attractions and castles are closed during the coldest month, February, this is also the time when balls are held, both public and private, and when you can see the residents dressed in their finery. The Charles Bridge is a wonderful tourist attraction this time of year.
The crowds thin out and the tourist prices drop from September to October, and the fall colors are a sight to behold. If you prefer Prague during the summer months, the best seasonal month is May, when the outdoor festivals are happening and the pollution, which is thick during the winter, is at its lowest. This is also the best time to sight see for celebrities, as this is when the Classical Music Festival is held, and musicians from all over the world come to perform.
